As I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten more picky. As a kid I always thought I’d be happy as an engineer. I realize that I am not. I don’t enjoy endless debugging, writing tests, or figuring out how to tabs vs spaces. None of that matters to me. What I care about is building a solid future with technology that works.
In that regard I’m thinking that I say goodbye to optimizing my focus on engineering and jump more fully into being an entrepreneur. It doesn’t mean I will fully step away. I enjoy technology and I enjoy what it can do for society. However, I enjoy making things that people use. So I’m less concerned about engineering and more about the rate of innovation. The technology is just a means to move things forward. So in that regard I’m moving to being more a builder of businesses as that is something I enjoy vastly more than pure software engineering.
